Saturday 30th July - Mottram Mud Run

Dave was in charge again this week and was joined by 14 other E Group members for the Mottram Mud run. This route is always enjoyable as it avoids the roads of Prestbury and Mottram and instead takes in the lovely paths  stiles and gates of the countryside. It's not a flat route, but that never stopped E Group!

See you next week,

Dave and Abi

Saturday 23rd July - Alderley Special

This week, E Group met at the National Trust Car Park at Alderley Edge to run around the edge. The route is undulating, but this provided some excellent opportunity for some hill reps and practice with downhill running.

It was a really warm morning so well done everyone, please don't forget to bring water if the sun is shining or if it's muggy.

See you next week,

Dave and Lindsey

SELFIE-O 2016 - 16th July - 7th August

The Selfie-O challenge has been set up as a ‘challenge’ to test planning, running, map-reading and navigation skills. The challenge must be done in teams (2 or more) for safety reasons. It is intended to be fun and to encourage you to discover new paths and routes.

- The 2016 challenge starts on Saturday 16th July and ends at midnight on 7th August 2016 (unless there is a general request to extend it).

- Send your team name and team members to (neil.gunn@gmail.com) as soon as possible (at least one team members must be on Facebook).

- The clues for the challenge will all be on a BLOG called http://selfie-o.blogspot.co.uk when the challenge opens for business.

- There are 50 clues each worth one point. There are additional bonus points at CLUE 12 - this is essential to get 'maximum points' (and points means prizes). Details about the 3 possible bonus points are on the clue sheet.

- Each clue has one (or two) pictures, a code (or part of a code) & a description that will guide you to that clue (hopefully the picture will make sense when you find the correct location) – you will need to crack the various code systems to get started with the challenge and to find certain clues. The clue pictures will also be on a FLICKR album when the challenge starts

- The clues are in random order – if you do them in clue number sequence it may take a long while to complete the challenge – you will need to plan your strategy!

- If you plan well you will have some good runs out – you can create routes to capture several clues.

NOTE: It is not in the spirit of the challenge to use cars etc to get close to clues – plan a good run instead!

- You must prove that you found the clue by taking a ‘selfie’ with team members in it (and the clue should be in it to prove where you were). For a team of two both people must be in the selfie, for a team of three at least two must be in the selfie, for a team of 4 at least 3 must be in the selfie...I strongly advise teams of 2, 3 or 4 and no more (personally I think 3 is the best number).

- The whole event will be managed on Facebook and you will need to be added to the 'Secret Group' for the event - contact Neil Gunn for this.

- As you find the clues and take your ‘selfie’ please upload it to the photo album with your team name (this album will be ready waiting for you and you will have access to add your selfies)

- Please follow the country code – leave nothing behind!

- Due to the ‘remote’ location of some of the clues it is necessary to do this in teams (two or more…but the more people involved makes logistics tricky. There are several clues that are 'remote' and I STRONGLY advise not to attempt them in poor weather or at night.

- All clues are within a 7 mile radius of Macclesfield Town Centre (north, south, east and west. If you plan well you can create circular routes of 5-6 miles with good parking at the start/finish (this is how I created the challenge).

- All clues are located on (or very near) public rights of way (footpaths, tracks, permissive paths etc) and it is NOT necessary to trespass or to climb over walls/fences to find them

- All the paths can be found on the Ordnance Survey ‘Orange’ Explorer Map 268 (1:25000) and Explorer Map OL24 (White Peak) – remember that each square on the map is 1km x 1km

- There will be prizes for completing the challenge

- Any errors should be pointed out to the organiser so that the clue sheet can be corrected

- The organiser’s decisions are final and the organiser does not accept bribes of any kind unless red wine or beer is involved.

- Although the challenge will officially end on 7th August 2016 teams can continue to find clues and submit ‘selfies’ – it is all good practice!

Saturday 16th July - Clough Bank

This morning, Louise was in charge of route planning and planned a lovely 4 mile route around Bollington and Kerridge which took in the popular '3 bend challenge' to the base of White Nancy, the path along to the waterfall and the canal towpath.

Coffee and breakfast was enjoyed by those who could stay at the Waterside Cafe after the run.

See you next week.

Saturday 9th July - Gritstone Trail

This week, E Group met in the pouring rain to run the Gristone Trail between Langley and Higher Sutton. The paths were wet, the grass were wet and by the end of the run, E Group were soaking.

It rained so much, that on return to the cars, the group had no option but to run through a huge puddle to get back to the cars. However, as you can see from the videos on Facebook, they thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity and it gave everyone a chance to clean their trainers.

Coffee was enjoyed by 13 damp runners at the garden centre.

Saturday 2nd July - Dangerous Dave's Fallibroome Frolic

A select trio of runners ran this morning to take on Dave's Fallibroome Frolic. Dave had been out and prepared the run with a little trimming of nettles and brambles. The run was enjoyed by everyone, and the pictures below show the typical mischief that Dave brought to the run.

There are a large number of runners completing the Run the Bypass 5 miles on Sunday, hopefully there will be lots of pictures to post.

                         All set to go!
