Monday 29th April - Harriers Group Event

Tonight several members of the Run England Group (Wendy S, Wendy B, Heather A, Heather C, Julie R, Catherine W, Gemma M, Bev E) took part in an event organised by Macc Harriers for all the road running groups. The event was held at Alderley Edge and organised by Bob & Pauline Lynch (D group). The event was in three parts - a short 15 minute flat relay, a short 15 minute hilly relay and 15 minutes of hill reps on the Edge.

About 50 people attended in total and many stayed back for a while to demolish all the cakes that had been brought along.

The group ran really well and I suspect there are a few aches and pains today ....

Saturday 27th April - Bollin Valley

We were fortunate to have some kind weather with a few splatters of rain and we had a good turn out of 12 runners plus 1 en-route.  Congratulations to Fiona on her pregnancy, it was lovely to see her smiley face who is blossoming at 15 weeks.

The Start (posing?)
We had a good warm up session followed by a hill training session and some fartlek training, whilst we remembered the advice of Bashir 'flat feet'.   After this session which added more colour to our checks (or should I say their cheeks) we commenced the lollipop run for the Long Run Group (6 runners) and I ran a shorter group excluding the pop.  The long distant group soon caught up and they were given additional running of longer loop backs and a hill run to finish off.

There was excellent running in the long distance group with some excellent loop backs. Whilst the short distance group did some great running with quick recovery walk breaks.

As a team we worked very well, I feel very privileged to have your trust and Neil's to take you out for your morning run.   12 months ago I put on my new trainers and took to c25k little did I think I would running 5/10k races let alone helping you with your running dream.

Well done and thank you.

"If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right.

Keep on running.

Thursday 25th April - Orienteering

The first of MDOC's (Manchester & District Orienteering Club) summer series was held at Teggs Nose on 25th April.

A few group members came along (Jenny H, Margaret G, Bev E as well as Alison and Neil). Ali paired with Margaret and Jen with Bev, Neil did his own thing (stupidly taking on the longest course).

Navigation was tricky and a few controls were not found but everybody agreed it had been a good session. If the aches etc on Friday norning are anything to go by we had a good workout!

More info here (plus details of the rest of the series):

Saturday 20th April - Macc Forest

Wow. What a day - blue sky, sunshine and even slightly warm for a tough run around Macclesfield Forest, Forest Chapel, Toot Hill etc (planned route at the bottom of this blog entry).

The Start
A great turnout (18 runners) and great team spirit saw everybody get round the route. Today was tough - we had hills (lots of them) and rough terrain - everybody ran well and hopefully practiced some of the techniques from Bashir. The original route was about 4 miles but a good number of people seemed to be having fun so we tagged on a loop of the reservoir as well. With loop-back etc some people did over 5 miles...everybody did at least 4 miles and 700' of ascent/descent.

A few people went for coffee and cake afterwards.

Well done - you will all be fell-runners the way things are going...
