Saturday 25th August - Legacy Event

Today was the Olympic Legacy Event being held by Macclesfield Harriers and the Athletic Development fund (supported by Startrack and England Athletics). The event gave children and adults the chance to take part in various 'track and field' disciplines as well as a fell-orienteering course and a 10k relay (25 laps of the track).

Despite a number of people being on holiday/away Run England put a strong team out.

Louise
Nina
Megan (guest runner!)
Joanne
Nicky
Scorer: Divya K

There were twelve teams competing (including a couple of 'elite' teams) and luckily the bad weather held off (it was a bit damp but we missed the tremendous storms that were all around us!).

The 5k mark was passed in about 26m30s and the final 10k time was a bit over 46m00s which is really really good (this is about 1m50s for each 400m lap!).

The team came in 11th just a minute or so behind several other teams So a big well done to all the runners and helpers - you should be proud of yourselves.

Saturday 18th August

The A Team prepare
The group met on the viaduct on the Middlewood Way (Bollington) at 9.30am - it was a warm and humid day. A great turnout with Dawn, Divya (K), Sarah, Jo, Phil, Bev, Dawn, Nicky & Lee (Lee has not been out with us for a while so welcome back!). Several group members were away on holiday.

The route today was the CAFOD route which goes south along the Middlewood Way, through Tinkers Clough (yes, it is a bit steep), back up the canal for a couple of miles and then back across to the Middlewood Way and back to the starting point. A decent 5 miles!

The heat took its toll today but everyone ran the course with a few walk-breaks and lots of 'loop back' to keep us together. Everyone looked tired at the end but well exercised ...  so we went to the Cafe Waterside for a selection of coffee, smoothie, coke, tea cake, toast etc.

A very pleasant way to spend a Saturday morning - well done everyone (and good preparation for the 10K relay on Saturday 25th).

ps Apparently it was a bit 'bumpy' today ....

Saturday 11th August

The group met at 9.00 in the Bollin Valley Car Park (early start as Jo had an urgent appointment for her nails!).

A great turnout (Jo, Bev, Phil, Nina, Nicky, Dawn & Sarah) - we ran the Prestbury circuit with lots of loop-back and some speed challenges. Considering the heat everyone ran well and looked 'well exercised' at the end.

We did our stretches and discussed plans for the 18th August (see blog entry for that date) and also the Legacy Day relay (we now have 4 runners).

Saturday 4th August

We met at 9.00 today to allow Divya (K) to get away early. Numbers were down partly due to rain and also the Olympics (lucky people). The group today was Jo, Divya, Sarah and Dawn (D). Sarah was using today's run as a 'warm up' for a 10K event on Sunday. As it had just rained we decided to run our standard 5K road route rather than going along the Bollin.

Divya did really well and only needed one walk break (well done)!

Here are a few photographs ...
